- Quiz/exam — scheduled assessment

- Institutional — holidays, semester start/end, registration periods
Scheduling a class exam (for the Student Dashboard countdown)
Students see a live countdown on their Dashboard to their class's next exam. There are two ways to set the date it counts down to — use whichever calendar you already work in:
- Class/Teacher Calendar — add a new event, set its type to Exam, and pick the date. (Most other system types like Assignment Due are hidden from this picker because they're generated automatically — Exam is the one system type you set by hand, since nothing else creates it for you.)
- Academic Calendar (admin area) — an Exam Period event scoped to the specific class also works, and is often the more natural place if your school already plans exam periods there.
Either one works — the countdown always shows whichever exam is soonest, from either source.
Tips
- Use custom events to block time for reviews, retakes, or special sessions
- If your institution has holidays set in the Academic Calendar, they'll appear automatically
- You can filter the calendar view by class to focus on a specific group
