Viewing Feedback & Grades
This page explains how to read teacher feedback and what grades mean in ILS.
Where feedback appears
When a submission is graded, feedback is attached to the submission record. That feedback can include:
- rubric comments for individual criteria
- a total score or point summary
- teacher notes
- outcome-related guidance
How grades and feedback work together
Grades are usually based on rubric scoring. Teachers select ratings for each rubric criterion, and the total score is calculated from those ratings.
Feedback helps you understand:
- what you did well
- what needs revision
- which learning outcomes were affected
Sample feedback item
| Item | Example |
|---|---|
| Score | 88% |
| Feedback | "Strong reasoning, but clarify your conclusion." |
| Revision request | "Expand the third paragraph with evidence." |
| Outcome note | "This score contributed to Algebraic reasoning mastery." |
What to do after feedback
- Read the teacher’s comments carefully.
- Look for rubric criteria that were marked low or missing.
- Connect the comments to the outcomes you are tracking.
- If the teacher asks for revision, update your submission and resubmit.
Practical student advice
- Use feedback as a learning guide, not just a score.
- Improve one rubric criterion at a time.
- Ask your teacher if you do not understand the feedback.
- Check your progress after the next graded submission to see whether the outcome score improves.
